The US Federal General Services Administration (GSA) in regularly in the news these days, in light of the now-underway Presidential transition of power. Here in Colorado, GSA was recently in the news for a different reason.

A week before Thanksgiving, West Metro Fire was called to the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood, CO, part of the GSA that locally houses thousands of federal employees. The building was evacuated and hazmat was deployed to investigate a chemical that crystallized in its container. Employees were concerned the container would explode.

After evacuation, it was determined that the crystallized chemical in the container was stable.  These government employees got a bonus holiday early due to the whole affair, as specialized authorities removed the container and the building remained closed the following day.

From FOX31, “The agency did not say which building it had responded to in the complex, nor shared what kind of chemical was under investigation.”

Which building would be an interesting detail. Building 53 in the GSA complex was only just opened in September. Officials remain tight lipped about last week’s emergency, with no additional details released since this story was originally reported.
