They can't deny it any longer, so they're turning on each other. For over a year, the people of Colorado have been gaslit about the migrant crime problem, but it has become impossible to spin for local leaders.
Coffman ripped Johnston in a press conference before Christmas, stating:
"not only did they not work with us as a city but they didn't inform our County Partners who have Human Services capability, and so desperate people do desperate things. So part of it, part of the problem that we have, is not just the gang activity, but it's people trying to survive, people trying to survive... You know that that's the concern here, so it's unfair to them, it's a form of human dumping and unfair, uh, to our city what what the mayor did."
Coffman is now openly using the term "human dumping" in Colorado, but he is still gaslighting about the migrant problem.
"The big story: It's one apartment complex, one apartment complex in this city, and I'm sorry that we had this second incident. I look forward to closing this apartment building down."
The "second incident" he's referring to is likely the recent kidnapping where a woman had her fingernails pulled out. The big bombshell in this hearing was Coffman's allegations about Johnston's use of nonprofits for "human dumping."
"...he devised a way to do it, um, using non a nonprofit to say it was a nonprofit that did it, "not me." Well it was. He funded it, Denver funded it... I've confronted the mayor about it, he won't tell me how many people he sent over here, he won't tell me what benefits he gave them, what promises he made. So we're going through open records request to get that information right now, and it's amazing that one mayor can't get an answer from another mayor, that he has to use a legal mechanism to get the truth, but that's where we are right now."
Johnston won't tell Coffman how many migrants he paid nonprofits to "dump" into Aurora.
