Representative Jason Crow (D-CO) is attempting to spin his party's devastating losses, again, joining MSNBC on Monday for “Katy Tur Reports.” While Crow’s ill-executed attempt may play with national audiences, here in the Centennial State, audiences know better.
Jason Crow is a progressive fever dream, maintaining a 100% approval rating with nearly every known progressive NGO — from Planned Parenthood to Common Cause to the NAACP to the National Education Association and all the Labor Unions — at a time NGOs and public private partnerships are coming under increased scrutiny in Colorado.
From the interview:
“You have to never stop earning the support and communicating with the American people, that this is not a history lesson, but this is present for a lot of folks, and we’re going to make the case. So, we’re going to continue to do our job. I have taken many oaths throughout my life. I was an Army Ranger. I served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I took oaths to defend the Constitution when I was fighting for our country. I took an oath, just the other day, again, for the fourth time, here in Congress. That is my North Star. I will never stop fighting for the Constitution, for the American people, for my constituents, that is all I can do, and that is what I will do.”
Crow spent much of the 2024 campaign in other states, because he absolutely takes his constituents for granted and doesn’t really concern himself with reelection. It always seems to work out for him. Worse, Crow has been vocal and vehement about supporting Ukraine but condescending and dismissive about the migrant gang activity in Aurora. Aurora is in his district.
In the interview, Crow inexplicably blames red-influenced gerrymandering for Republicans winning the House on November 5.
“Democrats would be in control of the House of Representatives if it weren’t for unbelievable gerrymandering in rewriting the district lines throughout this country.”
One of the flipped seats in the 2024 election was here in Colorado, CD8, where Yadira Caraveo (D-CO) was the first to hold the seat since blue-controlled gerrymandering drew the district following the 2020 census. The district attaches part of the higher density northern metro area to the less dense ranch and farm land in the northern part of the state.
As a result, blue Adams county dilutes the voting power of red Weld county when it comes to Congressional representation.
I’m sure that wasn’t the intention, right? Tell me more about red-controlled gerrymandering.
Caraveo won the inaugural seat, and democrats weren’t supposed to lose ever again. But, in fact, voters are fed up with progressives, and Gabe Evans (R-CO) flipped CD8 from blue to red on November 5. Representative Crow remains in denial about the direction of the country, as directed by the will of the people, so he’s trying to minimize the mandate. It won't work, on the national stage or the local one.
“Well, let’s not overreact and exaggerate about what happened, first of all, right? Donald Trump won the fifth-lowest amount of [the] popular vote of any election in the last hundred years. So, this was not any type of landslide red wave by any stretch of the imagination, and on top of that, we have the Electoral College, and on top of that, we have substantial gerrymandering.”
He appears to be denying the obvious — that democrats are out of touch with voters and need to correct course — but Crow pushed back and claimed temperance, stating that “the party needs to not over exaggerate and making changes and doing soul-searching aren’t all-or-nothing propositions.”
Try as he might, Crow cannot ignore changing public sentiment for long. Gaslighting your constituents while fighting against their interests is a losing proposition. Colorado Republicans should start working CD6 now for the 2026 race.
