No one is above the law.

We heard that over and over and over again during the Biden Administration as the State destroyed every precedent and standard and norm in their pursuit of “getting Trump.”
“And by the way, I’ve been indicted more times than Alphonse Capone. He’s the most vicious of all gangsters. If he took you to dinner, and if you didn’t look proper, if you laughed a little bit, he might think you’re laughing at him, it’s dangerous to laugh – he’d kill you immediately. He was indicted one time. I was indicted four times,” President Trump said in Iowa in November 2023, and throughout the 2024 campaign.
MAGA said it was weaponized government, ridiculous. Democrats said, “No one is above the law.”
Note that today is the anniversary of Al Capone’s death. He was public enemy number one during Prohibition — perhaps the greatest season of federal civil overreach before COVID — which begs the question as to why President Trump employed the comparison during his 2024 campaign. But I digress.
Fast forward to 2026, and we find state governments establishing sanctuary policies in violation of federal law. Are state governments above the law?
Denver created a newcomer playbook to provide aid and comfort to foreign criminals inside our country. Are Denver officials above the law?
Vail businesses closing up shop due to ICE activity, ostensibly because they employ illegals. Are Vail businesses above the law?
In November, voters get to weigh in. From the Denver Post:
“Colorado voters will decide this November if law enforcement must alert the U.S. Department of Homeland Security if a person charged with a violent crime or repeat felony is in the country illegally. Initiative 95, backed by the conservative Advance Colorado Institute, was cleared for the ballot Friday afternoon. Backers collected nearly 190,000 signatures to earn a spot on the ballot. It would need a simple majority to become law.”
A news release from the measure’s backers states:
“Even states like California and New York allow for cooperation with Homeland Security when law enforcement is dealing with a violent criminal. Colorado does not.”
Federal immigration enforcement in sanctuary cities and states is expected to increase for the foreseeable future.
Despite a whole-of-legacy-press effort to claim that Americans don’t support the administration’s immigration enforcement, reliable polling shows that Americans remain divided on party lines on this issue, and public sentiment is relatively unchanged since summer of last year.
Reminder that President Trump won the popular vote. The People voted for making America safe again — and no one is above the law.
