Representative Brittany Pettersen (D-07) is known for her political stunts. The internet dubbed her “baby prop chick” after she used her baby (an adorable and precious tiny human, made in the image of God, who gets no shade from us) as a prop in her efforts to demand proxy voting for personal privilege.
For months, Pettersen brought her child to the House floor, committee meetings, press conferences, and photo ops to prove how hard it is to be both a new mom and a Congresswoman.
It was the height of privilege and an insult to women, and it was for personal gain — she wanted voters to send her to Washington without her actually having to go to Washington.
Now, Representative Pettersen is using other people’s babies in her political stunts. On Wednesday, the congresswoman posted on X:
“I'm leading the CO Dem Delegation in demanding answers from DHS following reports of secret ICE holding cells in Colorado. Holding vulnerable people in small rooms without proper facilities for days or weeks is unacceptable and inhumane. DHS must immediately explain how this happened and what steps are being taken to ensure basic standards of care are upheld. These are human beings, and the treatment of immigrants under Trump’s direction will leave a shameful stain on our history.”
Her post included an image from The Colorado Times Recorder suggesting that ICE has prevented detainees from using the restroom for 39 days.
Sounds smelly.
ICE amplified Pettersen’s post, and then they revealed that it’s all a rhetorical stunt: Pettersen hasn’t even inquired about the claims of CTR — a self-proclaimed “progressive” propaganda outlet.
“These are not ‘secret’ holding rooms they are sub-offices within the field office where ICE personnel are assigned, conduct operations, and process arrests. Most of these offices have been open and operating for more than 15 years. ICE Denver finds @RepPettersen claims… disingenuous considering she has not reached out to ICE Denver to verify this claim before relying on misinformation from an inaccurate source. She hasn’t even asked for a tour of the holding room in her own district.”
They put the whole stunt on ice. Delightful.
Do we need to update her handle to the plural? "Baby Props Chick."
