Schleiker's Final Say Raises Disturbing Questions of NGO Influence on Elected Officials

I received Steve Schleiker’s resignation letter and notice of resignation to his colleagues via Colorado Open Records Tuesday. Both documents receive are linked in their entirety at the bottom of this article.
The El Paso County Clerk names names:
- “I was informed by both Matt [Crane] and Carly [Koppes] that this was due to a lack of trust from the Secretary of State’s Office regarding my participation.”
- “The Secretary of State is not a member of this Association, and it is troubling to me that an external office would have de facto authority over which of our elected officers may engage in discussions on behalf of the organization.”
- “It has been difficult to watch what appears to be one individual in Denver, Martha Tierney, attorney for the Colorado Democratic Party, exert significant influence over election-related legislation, directing caucus positions and outcomes.”
Schleiker raises the question of outside influence, and it’s an important one. Read the full resignation and his notice to hos colleagues at the links below.
