Democrat delegates in Colorado’s 1st District will gather tonight and caucus to nominate candidates for the primary ballot. Representative Diana DeGette is a 15-term incumbent – which is insane by itself – but she's facing a challenge from first-time candidate Melat Kiros.

According to Punchbowl, Kiros dominated 63% to 35% in a delegate preference poll at a county assembly earlier this month – which was a wake-up call for DeGette who needs to clear 30% to make the primary ballot. DeGette did not gather signatures according to the reports.
In recent months, and in earnest since the military action in Iran began, Democrats have attempted to stand on their anti-war roots. Perhaps that is why DeGette is struggling. Her roots are explicitly pro foreign wars.
That moment above was April 23, 2024, when the US House of Representatives voted to provide Ukraine with $60.8 billion in aid via H.R. 8035. According to an ethics complaint filed the following month (May 15, 2024), the foreign flags being waived on the floor of the People's House were handed out by Rep DeGette.
Her challenger is working the process:
“The congresswoman was nowhere to be seen,” Kiros said of the caucus process in the Punchbowl article. “We have two candidates that are asking for their votes. One of them actually put in the work to earn their vote, and the other one did not.”
The young challenger is hitting all the populists notes in her campaign messaging, giving off AOC vibes and calling out DeGette's alleged War PAC and Epstein connections.
She'd be more formidable than AOC for conservatives if she ever made it into the House.
