In a busy weekend of activity in Colorado's 5th District representing Colorado Springs and surrounding areas, current Congressman Doug Lamborn has announced his retirement on Friday Jan 5th. He will officially retire at the end of his current term this year.
The surprise move now opens up three US House seats within Colorado with Congressman Ken Buck's retirement in Colorado's 4th District in Northeast Colorado, along with Lauren Boebert's announcement in Western Colorado's 3rd District to move to the 4th District to run for Buck's seat. Now with Colorado's 5th District being vacated by Doug Lamborn, this Conservative seat is open.
Over the weekend, Colorado GOP Chair, Dave Williams, jumped into the race as an early entrant to replace Doug Lamborn in the 5th District. In an email, Williams was straight to the point, "Washington D.C. is broken. The radical left and the swamp in D.C. are coming for you...and I promise to stand in their way so you and your family can succeed and have the freedom to live the life you want to live."
With the 3rd, 4th and 5th Districts in Colorado now up for grabs, lets see who enters these races. There is likely to be robust debate amongst all the contenders for these three seats. Will the GOP's slim majority survive or grow? How will these Colorado races impact the national scene? We will be following these races in this critical election year.
