On May 16, 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the indictment of 11 individuals from across the United States for their alleged involvement in a disturbing online conspiracy centered around the creation and distribution of videos depicting the torture and sexual abuse of monkeys.

Among those indicted is Carter G. Fawcett, who was known to the group as "Captain," a resident of Colorado. The defendants are accused of conspiring with Nicholas T. Dryden of Cincinnati, previously charged in the case, to produce so-called "animal crush videos."

From the DOJ release:

***Warning Graphic***

"The indictment details 79 overt acts in which defendants allegedly paid Dryden who then paid a minor in Indonesia to commit the requested acts on camera. The videos alleged to have been created as part of the conspiracy depicted, among other things, monkeys having their genitals burned and cut with scissors, as well as being sodomized with a wooden skewer and a spoon."

The individuals charged are:

  • Ernest D. Chavez (aka "Lax") – Arizona
  • Hugh T. Campbell (aka "Tim Templeton") – Pennsylvania
  • Carter G. Fawcett (aka "Captain") – Colorado
  • Brady O. Shellhammer (aka "Beglu" or "Bbbeglu") – Louisiana
  • Jimmy Wong (aka "Yasser Lopez") – New York
  • Kimberly A. Anglin (aka "Kim Anglin") – Connecticut
  • Mark M. Sampieri (aka "The Chef" or "SainT") – Connecticut
  • Victoria S. Haskins (aka "Cat Face" or "Sparkles Fancy Pants") – Louisiana
  • Vance H. Beadles (aka "Mr. Green") – Kentucky
  • Mary L. Longoria (aka "R6" or "R6ex") – North Carolina
  • Patrick C. Naylor (aka "YANTF" or "YANTF 2x") – North Carolina

Each defendant faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison if convicted. The case is being prosecuted by the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio. The FBI and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service conducted the investigation.

Authorities emphasize that an indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law... But if found guilty, do the monkey's get a turn?

Despicable.
