Today in the 3rd day of the 2nd session for the 74th General Assembly, it started with HJR24-1003 https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/HJR24-1003 -Concerning designation of the portion of United States Highway 36 in Boulder County from Mile Marker 32 to Mile Marker 37 as the "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Highway" by the placement of signs in each direction of travel where the designated portion of the highway begins. This was passed unanimously.
During the 2nd resolution HJR24-1004- https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/HJR24-1004-Concerning the commemoration of the birthday of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. While this also passed, there are a few speeches which are worth highlighting. While the comments are meant to be relevant to the Resolution, Rep. Hernandez took the opportunity to tie in Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s protest against Vietnam to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Rep Hernandez also states Martin Luther King was a socialist and stated “it’s not that we don’t have socialism in this country, it is that we have socialism for folks who are rich and wealthy who have fully funded communities…and Dr. Martin Luther King calls “The rugged individualism of the poor”,” Rep Hernandez continues with “Now that we ALL have a right to vote (paraphrased), it’s important to enact the 2nd part of Martin Luther King’s philosophy, which is to create the conditions of economic power to shed the shackles of an unjust past that has enacted oppression….Our struggle for justice may not be popular, but it is just. One of the reasons Martin Luther Kings philosophies were so unpopular is because he called for an immediate and permanent cease fire in Vietnam. I am so proud to stand today as a member of the Latino caucus…. I’m so proud of my caucus for standing in solidarity with the oppressed and calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza today”. Calling for the cease fire in Palestine, is stating Israel has no right to defend the people of Israel after the multiple murders and raping of innocent civilians. Hernandez and the “protestors” will scream injustice about the people living in Palestine, but let’s remember who started the war on October 7th. Let’s remember the innocent victims, including the young children who were killed and the Palestinian citizens laughing as these individuals (some alive and others dead) were driven through the streets of Gaza. Let’s also remember, Jesus is a Jew, Adonai is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Jesus died for the salvation of all and He will return one day to rule and reign from Jerusalem in Israel. I encourage those who have read this article and watch the video to pray for Rep. Hernandez and the other caucus members. Who knows if the Lord will not call forth a Paul from a Saul.
Praise the Lord, it didn’t end with the words of Rep. Hernandez. Pastor and Rep. Scott Bottoms was able to share the Gospel message. May the Lord use these words to pierce the hearts within the House and across the State of Colorado.
