The Colorado Open Records Act is a sunshine law, but it’s often violated by officials that want to hide their wrong doing or suppress truth in favor of narrative.
Such is the case with the apartment buildings that were taken over by Venezuelan gangs in Aurora. From the Denver Gazette:
“The information was revealed after the city released — following the threat of a lawsuit from The Denver Gazette — a cache of unredacted emails to and from the attorney representing CBZ Management that were requested under the Colorado Open Records Act, or CORA.”
The “information” is the fact that city officials knew of the problem.
“The city knew that the property had no staff on it,” Aurora Official Danielle Jurinsky said, adding, “They knew damn well the property had been taken over by gangs.”
Readers will recall that the entire institutional establishment denied that the apartments had been overrun, demonized the building owners, and lobbed “racism” allegations against anyone that told the truth.
“‘To be clear, my impression from what has been occurring generally is that your client has been asking for the City to take this action in order for your client to take control of the property and to sell the property,’ Peter Schulte, Aurora’s assistant city attorney, wrote CBZ Management’s attorney on Aug. 6.”
Do Colorado residents believe this coordinated lie is a one off? Or are we now ready to have the difficult conversation about the systemic corruption and organized crime within Colorado’s city and state government entities.
