Is there a weight capacity for your deck? A cautionary tale out of Evergreen encourages you to check. From 9News:
“Firefighters initially said about 50 people were on the deck when it collapsed. On Sunday, the fire department said they were told that while there were 40 to 50 people at the party at one point, there were only ‘a handful’ of people on the deck when it collapsed.
The children were between the ages of 5 and 10, Elk Creek Fire said. Three children were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Each suffered minor injuries.
‘Fortunately there was no one under the deck when it collapsed, and fortunately it was mostly a lot of bumps and bruises,’ Elk Creek Fire spokesperson Bethany Urban said.”
No doubt we can expect new capacity rules and building code regulations in the wake of this accident, but on a positive note, all involved had minor injuries.
Will the party go on?
