Private landowners, Lori and Rob Graves, have removed a nine-foot tall, four-foot wide monolith which mysteriously appeared on their Bellevue property on June 23.
The couple own the Howling Cow Cafe, adjacent to the hill on which the monolith had been constructed. While the estimated 800-1500 visitors flocking to see the reflective pillar have been good for business, they also have been damaging the hill. This, along with the litter being left by the tourists, led the couple’s to remove the monolith before the Fourth of July weekend.
"Everyone wants to look but not everyone wants to do it respectfully,'' Lori Graves told the Coloradoan.
This is just one of several monoliths to mysteriously appear in recent years. The first was found in Utah, in 2020. Since then others have popped up throughout the western United States as well as in the United Kingdom and Romania.
