There is something seriously wrong with aviation safety in the United States and it seems only a matter of time before a serious loss of life occurs.
We must focus on rebuilding our institutions and internal national security.
I can't help but think this was intentional.
A Frontier Airlines flight bound for Los Angeles struck and killed a pedestrian on a runway at Denver International Airport (DEN) late Friday night, forcing pilots to abort takeoff and triggering a brief engine fire that led to the evacuation of all 231 people on board.
The incident occurred around 11:19 p.m. on May 8, 2026, as Frontier Flight 4345, an Airbus A321 operating on Runway 17L, accelerated for departure. According to air traffic control audio and statements from the airport and airline, the aircraft struck the individual during the takeoff roll.
In a recording of the ATC communications, the pilot radioed: “Tower, Frontier 4345, we’re stopping on the runway. We just hit somebody and have an engine fire.” The tower acknowledged the situation and confirmed emergency vehicles were being dispatched, asking for souls on board and fuel remaining. The crew reported 231 souls and 21,320 pounds of fuel, noting “there was an individual walking across the runway.”
Emergency crews quickly extinguished the engine fire. Passengers were evacuated via slides onto the runway amid reports of smoke in the cabin. Twelve people sustained minor injuries, with five transported to local hospitals. The remainder were bused back to the terminal, and most later departed on a rescheduled flight.
Denver International Airport confirmed the pedestrian had jumped a perimeter fence and was struck just minutes later while crossing the active runway. The individual, who has not been publicly identified and is not believed to be an airport employee, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The airport stated its fenceline was found intact following the breach.
The runway remained closed Saturday as the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and other authorities launched an investigation into the security breach and circumstances surrounding the pedestrian’s access to the airfield. Frontier Airlines expressed sadness over the event and said it is cooperating fully with investigators.
Aviation incidents involving unauthorized individuals on runways are rare at major U.S. airports. Officials will examine perimeter security protocols, response times, and how the person gained access to the secure area so close to an active departure. No further details on the victim’s identity or motive have been released. The investigation is ongoing.
