Former CNN anchor and independent journalist Don Lemon was taken into federal custody on January 29, 2026, in Los Angeles after being indicted by a federal grand jury in Minnesota for intimidating and harassing church goers, including children, in St. Paul on January 18.
The demonstration was aimed at a pastor who is also reportedly an ICE agent. Federal prosecutors charged Lemon and several others with civil rights violations, including conspiracy and interfering with the First Amendment rights of worshippers under statutes such as the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act and the KKK Act.
Lemon, who livestreamed and reported on the events at the church, has maintained that he was present purely in a journalistic capacity and that his work was protected by the First Amendment. WATCH:
He was released without bond after appearing in federal court in Los Angeles and has vowed to continue his reporting and challenge the charges. Lemon was seen at the Grammys on Sunday.
Church attendees, including the children traumatized by this publicity stunt, may have viable civil suits against Lemon and his collaborators.
