This morning Israel took one of the heaviest Hezbollah rocket barrages to date, with over 100 launches identified in around an hour, between 7:15am and 8:15am. The rockets were directed from southern Lebanon towards Israeli communities triggering sirens for thousands of innocent civilians who spent their mornings in bomb shelters.
The massive strike comes after over a dozen rockets were fired on northern Israel yesterday evening and comes as part of a mutual escalation in recent days beginning with a UAV sent into Israel by Hezbollah to which Israel responded with air strikes on Hezbollah targets deep inside Lebanon. Last night and this morning the IDF struck additional Hezbollah targets, including some deep in Lebanon, in response to the continuing missile attacks, while the massive attack this morning was an apparent retaliation for Israel’s strikes in Lebanon yesterday.
The increasing severity of the situation in northern Israel cannot be understated. Israel is currently preparing for war with a terrorist organization which possesses a vast missile arsenal, hundreds of thousands of soldiers, advanced technological abilities and which is not bound by international law or convention. Like Hamas, Hizballah hides in civilian populations and has spent decades constructing a vast tunnel system which reportedly goes as far as Beirut.
For Israel, a country the size of the state of New Jersey with a population of less than 10 million people, this is no joke. As we reported yesterday, Israel is currently preparing mass underground shelters for civilian populations in the event of extended rocket attacks from Hezbollah on major cities. Meanwhile, the rest of the world seems to be in denial that Israelis are once again under fire. This is the time to stop another catastrophe like October 7th before it happens – will the world stand with Israel as it defends itself or look away?
