The Colorado Parent Advocacy Network (CPAN), in partnership with Defending Education, Protect Kids Colorado, Do No Harm, and Dr. Travis Morrell, announced in a statement that they have officially filed a lawsuit against the State of Colorado. These advocates are challenging a dangerous section of HB25-1312 — a new law signed by Democrat Governor Polis — that violates the First Amendment by making free speech illegal in places of public accommodation.

HB25-1312 goes far beyond protecting against discrimination. It forces Coloradans to use government-approved language about gender identity in public places — compelling individuals and organizations to use "chosen names" and pronouns, even when this contradicts their deeply held beliefs. This isn’t just a matter of respect — it's a direct assault on free speech.

Why It Matters

  • Forced Speech: Colorado now mandates that businesses, organizations, and public places must use a person’s “chosen name” and preferred pronouns, regardless of their personal or religious beliefs.
  • Punishment for Dissent: Those who speak consistently with biological reality could face severe penalties for “discrimination.”
  • No Room for Truth: Colorado’s law attempts to silence anyone who refuses to endorse the state’s view on sex and gender, labeling their speech as discriminatory.

CPAN ended their statement with: "We will not allow the government to compel citizens to endorse an ideology they do not believe."
