In case you missed it, President Trump has brought attention to a portrait of him that hangs inside the Colorado State Capitol. In a TruthSocial post on March 23, he stated, “Nobody likes a bad picture or painting of themselves, but the one in Colorado, in the State Capitol, put up by the Governor, along with all other presidents, was purposefully distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before.” He went on to demand that the portrait be taken down.

The painting in question was painted by Sarah Boardman, a portraiture artist, originally from England, who currently resides in Colorado Springs. It was presented in 2019 after then Senator Kevin Grantham spearheaded a crowdfunding effort to raise money to commission a portrait of President Trump. The portrait was hung in the Capitol’s rotunda gallery alongside other portraits of all past presidents.

Boardman also painted the 2011 portrait of former President Obama hanging in Colorado’s Capitol. Both portraits can be viewed at her website.

Per the New York Times, Colorado Republicans have requested the removal of the portrait. Democrat leadership has agreed, saying, “If the G.O.P. wants to spend time and money on which portrait of Trump hangs in the Capitol, then that’s up to them.”
