Recently we discussed how Keenesburg Aron Mayor Lam worked with his City Council to establish a local Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and we’re anxiously awaiting other localities to follow suit.

While Castle Rock hasn’t declared DOGE yet, they have promised to work with federal immigration authorities, and now Douglas County, for which Castle Rock is the county seat, is drawing lines — in the community and in court. From a release on the Douglas County website:

“The Board of Douglas County Commissioners plans to appeal a Denver District Court Judge’s dismissal of the County’s lawsuit against two state immigration laws.

“Earlier this year, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners and Sheriff Darren Weekly – along with several other counties that ultimately represent 25% of Colorado’s population – sued the state to challenge two immigration-related laws.

“The first law in the litigation, passed in 2019 (HB19-1124), prohibits local governments from cooperating with the federal government in immigration enforcement and prohibits the sharing of judicial information with federal officials. The second law in the litigation, passed in 2023 (HB23-1100), prohibits any local government from entering an IGA with the federal government for civil immigration enforcement.

The District Court dismissed the case Tuesday afternoon. Douglas County anticipated this outcome and from the outset and is prepared to appeal.”

The immigration showdown in 2025 promises to be a riveting saga, full of emotionally charged propaganda. Let's hope we end up safer when it's all said and done.

Beyond immigration, despite state expectations to decriminalize crime in Colorado, DougCo is flexing on criminals, and incoming DA-elect George Brauchler (R-JD23) joined DC Sheriff Darren Weekly for a press conference full of prosecutorial promises.

Side note: We've noticed the Sheriff's X account has gotten more brazen since the election, trolling traffic crimes and making drug-related Christmas posts.

    This timeline is weird.

We're watching Douglas closely as the stave v. local, Rocky Mountain Showdown heats up and looking forward to the feds join in a few weeks. As Tom Homan says, “Just wait until January 20.”
