Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) reportedly has Senate Democrats in a pincer.

“It seems like it’s a hard vote,” Thune told The Hill on Wednesday. “Because they all say they want a normal appropriations process, and we’re trying to give them one. I get it, it’s in the middle of a shutdown, which is a complicating dynamic here.”
Complicating the dynamic? The Pentagon appropriations bill passed out of committee with bipartisan support -- only three no votes from the 29-member committee. It ostensibly could have been passed earlier this year, but then we’d miss the shutdown drama!
The only thing complicating this dynamic is impotent Democrats frustrated by their unsatisfying lack of power – and that’s great entertainment.
Today, the government has been shut down for 16 days. What have we saved?
More importantly, what have we learned?
In related news, National Security Presidential Memorandum (NSPM) 8 has been issued to provide "military pay and allowances for active duty military personnel, as well as for Reserve component military personnel who have performed active service during the relevant pay period."
This comes after President Trump announced he would fund WIC via tariff revenues.
Congress better hurry and open the government before we figure out how to fund the true essentials without them.
On Thursday, Democrats blocked Republican efforts to reopen for the 10th time, ensuring the shutdown will continue into next week.
