In a bold stand for fairness and integrity in school athletics, Falcon School District 49 in El Paso County, Colorado, has officially adopted a policy barring biological males from participating in girls’ sports. The move comes under the district’s new "Preserving Fairness and Safety in Sports" policy, which defines biological sex as an individual’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth. This action is being heralded as a win for female athletes who have seen opportunities, records, and scholarships jeopardized by male participation in women’s sports.

The district’s policy aligns with Executive Order 14201 issued by President Trump in February 2025, which warned educational institutions that they risk losing federal funding if they permit practices that undermine women’s sports. Falcon School District 49 is implementing clear guidelines: boys may not play on girls’ teams, girls may not play on boys’ teams, and locker and hotel accommodations must reflect biological sex. This initiative reasserts the foundational principles of Title IX, which was designed to protect equal athletic opportunities for women—not dilute them.
From Complete Colorado:
"The policy makes it clear that, despite possible conflict with Colorado anti-discrimination laws, the action was taken after a presidential executive order that the school board believes would put it’s federal funding in jeopardy if they did not comply... District 49 is currently suing the state over those anti-discrimination laws."
Despite ongoing legal tension with state anti-discrimination laws, the district is standing firm in its decision. The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) has acknowledged the district’s right to implement policies consistent with its community’s values and legal interpretations. As lawsuits move through the courts, Falcon District’s actions may be a potential blueprint for restoring competitive integrity in scholastic sports.
